LOCATION OCCURRED: 1900 block of Colgrove Avenue, Kalamazoo Township, Michigan
INCIDENT SUMMARY: On Wednesday, May 30th, 2024 at approximately 2:00pm, Township of Kalamazoo police officers responded to a report of gunshots in an apartment building. Officers arrived and located an apartment door that had been shot into. The occupant of the apartment was unharmed and witnesses observed a person running away from the building.
Throughout this past week, the public has worked with TKPD detectives to help identify a suspect in this matter. On June 7, 2024, with assistance from the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team, TKPD detectives and patrol officers located and arrested CAMERON SHAUNDELL WILSON, an 18-year-old Kalamazoo resident. Wilson was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department without incident.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the investigation and authorized the following charges:
- Weapons – Firearms – Discharge in or at a building: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
- Weapons – Firearms – Possession by prohibited person: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
- Weapons – Ammunition – Possession by a prohibited person: A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 bond.
- Weapons – Felony Firearm (2 counts): A felony offense for which the offender may receive up to 2 years in prison.
On June 7, 2024, Cameron Wilson was arraigned on these charges by the Honorable Judge Becket Jones of the 8th District Court, who gave Wilson a bond of $100,000 cash/surety.
