LOCATION OCCURRED: 100 block of Island Avenue, Parchment, MI
INCIDENT SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to an abandoned building in the City of Parchment reference a 911 call for help. Officers arrived and located 48-year-old, Brian Garvelink on the ground inside of the mill. It appeared the victim sustained traumatic injuries from a fall while he was attempting to remove scrap material. Despite rescue efforts by officers and medical personnel, Garvelink succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
For your safety and the safety of responding emergency personnel, the community is reminded to stay out of the abandoned buildings. Especially those posted as no trespassing due to potentially dangerous conditions.
