INCIDENT TYPE: Suspicious death

DATE OCCURRED: April 23, 2020

LOCATION OCCURRED: 3000 block of N. Pitcher St.

VICTIM INFO: 44 year old Kalamazoo man. No further information is being released until the next of kin is notified.

INCIDENT SUMMARY: The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department was called to the 3000 block of N. Pitcher St. in Kalamazoo Township for a report of an unresponsive person. Responding officers found a 44 year old man who was declared dead at the scene. The cause of death is not immediately known, however the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is continuing its investigation as a suspicious death.

INCIDENT TYPE: Attempted Murder 

      

DATE OCCURRED: Thursday March 20, 2020                 TIME: 1:50 A.M.

LOCATION OCCURRED:  2100 Block of Sunnyside Dr., Township of Kalamazoo

 

INCIDENT SUMMARY:
The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a local apartment complex on the report of shots fired.  The investigation revealed the victim, a 33 year old Kalamazoo Township resident, was struck by gun fire while inside an apartment. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  There were no suspects located.

Officers believe this is not a random act of violence and the general public was not targeted.

INCIDENT COMPLAINT:  20-000885

 

INCIDENT TYPE: Unlawful Driving Away an Automobile/Receiving and Concealing

 

DATE OCCURRED: Tuesday March 10, 2020                   TIME: 10:00 A.M.

 

LOCATION OCCURRED: 2200 block of Gull Rd., Township of Kalamazoo

 

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

 

An officer from the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department was patrolling in the 2200 block of Gull Rd. and located a stolen vehicle out of the City of Kalamazoo.  The officer went to investigate and several subjects fled on foot.  Eventually five juveniles males were captured and it was determined that the five individuals had actually driven to the apartment complex in two separate stolen vehicles, one from the City of Kalamazoo and one stolen from Kalamazoo County. 

 

All 5 suspects are 14 year old male residents of Kalamazoo.

 

Township of Kalamazoo Police Officers arrested the five suspects and they were lodged at Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.  The five juveniles have been charged with various crimes related to the theft or possession of the stolen cars.

News Release

INCIDENT COMPLAINT:  20-000800

 

INCIDENT TYPE: Home Invasion

 

DATE OCCURRED: Tuesday March 3, 2020                     TIME: 9:00 A.M.

 

LOCATION OCCURRED: A home in the 1900 Block Seminole St, Township of Kalamazoo

 

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

 

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Seminole St. on the report of a suspicious subject approaching homes and going into vehicles.  While officers were checking the area, an eyewitness came forward and assisted police in locating the suspect who was hiding in a garage.  The investigation revealed multiple vehicles and garages had been entered.

 

The suspect is a 16 year-old male resident of Kalamazoo.

 

Township of Kalamazoo Police Officers arrested the suspect, and lodged him at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.  The case is being forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Prosecuting Attorney’s office for review for multiple charges of home invasion as well as breaking and entering.

 

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is thankful for the vigilance and cooperation of those living and working in our community.  It is likely the subject would not have been detected or arrested without their help.

INCIDENT TYPE: Attempted Murder        

 

DATE OCCURRED: Tuesday February 25, 2020               TIME: 11:00 A.M.

 

LOCATION OCCURRED:  2100 Block of Sunnyside Dr., Township of Kalamazoo

 

 

INCIDENT SUMMARY:

The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to a local hospital on the report of a patient who sustained a gunshot wound.  The investigation revealed the victim, a 24 year old Kalamazoo resident, was shot during a drug deal. The victims injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  The suspect is described as a very thin black male, with short hair, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and was not located.

 

Officers believe this is not a random act of violence and the general public was not targeted. As a precaution, local schools were placed on lockdown until the area was secured by the police.
