Welcome to Kalamazoo Charter Township!
Awarded the Township of Excellence designation by the Michigan Township Association

The mission of Kalamazoo Township is to provide government services that promote a safe, healthy, accessible, and economically viable community to live, work, learn, and play.

Kalamazoo Township wraps around three sides of the City of Kalamazoo, offering equally easy access to all the urban amenities and more rural activities. The Township is made up of four neighborhoods, each with a strong sense of community and history. They contain a broad range of housing stock, thriving locally owned businesses, and commercial and industrial areas available for development. All parts of the Township have access to broadband internet, curbside recycling, and municipal sewer and water. Families in the township have access to several quality school choices, including Kalamazoo Public Schools and the nationally known Kalamazoo Promise Scholarship. Anywhere in the Township residents are short minutes away from highly rated medical facilities and universities as well as parks, golf courses, tennis courts and bike trails. If you’re looking for a place to raise a family, live close to work and play or start a business, please join us in Kalamazoo Township.

Township of Excellence Designation

Left to right: Supervisor Ronald Reid, Trustee Donald Martin, Clerk Mark Miller, Former Treasurer George Cochran, Trustee Nicky Leigh, Trustee Steven Leuty and Manager Dexter Mitchell. Absent from photo, Treasurer Sherine Miller and Trustee Jeremy Hathcock.

Current and former members of  the Kalamazoo Township Board of Trustees accepted the designation of Township of Excellence awarded by the Michigan Township Association (MTA) at their Annual Conference on April 5, 2017. MTA stated that the award was given for "demonstrated superior processes and outcomes in governance, along with adherence to best practices involving its statutory duties of financial stewardship, assessing, tax collection and economic development, transportation, utilities, and cemeteries--if the township provides any of those services." Members of the board would like to thank the former trustees, elected officials and staff of the Township that made this possible.
